Arroyo de la Miel is one of the three main areas of Benalmádena, together with Benalmádena Pueblo and Benalmádena Costa.

It is the commercial heart of the municipality, with a large selection of shops, cafés, bars, restaurants and services concentrated around the town centre.

Unlike Benalmádena Pueblo, which has a traditional Andalusian village atmosphere, or Benalmádena Costa, which is focused more heavily on beaches and tourism, Arroyo de la Miel has a much more everyday feel.

The area also has several parks, cultural facilities and leisure attractions, while its railway station makes it particularly convenient for visitors travelling around the Costa del Sol.

7. Tips for Visiting

Allow a couple of hours to explore the town centre.

Don't just concentrate on the main tourist attractions.

Walk along the shopping streets and explore some of the side streets.

Stop for a coffee or a drink in one of the local cafés.

Use the train if you are travelling from Málaga or along the Costa del Sol.

Combine a visit with the Benalmádena Cable Car.

The town is particularly convenient as a starting point for visiting Tivoli and the attractions around the lower slopes of the Calamorro.

If you're staying on the coast, consider taking the train up rather than driving.

Arroyo de la Miel is a good place to experience a more everyday side of Benalmádena away from the main tourist areas.

9. Overall Experience

Arroyo de la Miel is sometimes overlooked by visitors who head straight for Benalmádena Costa or make the trip up to the Pueblo, but it is actually an important part of understanding Benalmádena. This is where you see much more of the everyday life of the municipality, with local shops, cafés, restaurants and busy streets rather than a resort atmosphere.

Its biggest practical advantage is the railway station, which makes it one of the easiest places on the Costa del Sol to reach without a car. From here you can travel along the C1 line towards Málaga, the airport, Torremolinos and Fuengirola. 

Our tip: If you're staying in Benalmádena Costa, take the train up to Arroyo de la Miel rather than simply passing through on the way to somewhere else. Have a walk around the centre, explore the shops and stop for a coffee or lunch. You can then continue up towards the Cable Car or return to the coast by train. It gives you a completely different view of Benalmádena from the one most holidaymakers see.
