Castillo de Colomares was built between 1987 and 1994 as a tribute to Christopher Colombus. It is not really a castle but is still worth a look around. Castillo de Colomares is a curiosity that stands out. It can be seen from the church gardens in Benalmadena Pueblo and looking down on the building is amazing. The folly has been built with beautiful gardens surrounding it. The design and intricate stonework is fantastic and its hard to beleive that it was designed by a doctor and built by two local builders in there spare time. The views from the castle are stunning like most of the views from the hills and mountains in the area. It is a fitting tribute to Christopher Colombus.
