Sohail Castle is situated west of Fuengirola just off the A7 heading towards Marbella. The castle has a bloody history built originally by the Moors, Taken over by the Christians in 1485. Napoleon's troops took control in 1810. Spanish and British forces tried to take control in 1811 but failed in an amazing battle where under the command of Lord Blayney had the castle out manned by ten to one and totally out gunned, but failed to take the castle and got himself captured during the battle. The Spanish regained control in 1812. After that there was no real use for the castle and it fell into disrepair through neglect. In 1989 the castle was restored as a tourist attraction. During the summer month concerts and festivals are held in and around the castle. Although there is not a lot to see in the castle it is still worth the walk up the hill to it. The view's of the town and the med are worth the climb. For more information on the Sohail Castle in Fuengirola including an interactive google map for directions from your current position see below.
