The tower at La Cala de Mijas is one of many constructed a long the coastline between the sixteen and eighteen hundred's. They were built to stop Pirate raids from Africa in order to re-populate the area after the catholic's took back the land from the Moorish Arab's. Today the tower house's a small museum and the tourist information centre.
