Most towns in the Costa del Sol have Christmas Markets and Christmas light decorations. Below is a list of these Christmas activities.
Many of the fairs & festvals on the Costa del Sol have been cancelled due to coronavirus so please check with the local tourist information centre.
Fuengirola Christmas light switch on: The Fuengirola Christmas light switch on attracts large crowds to the Plaza de Espana. Not the biggest lighting display on the Costa del Sol but still worth participating in. The Christmas lights are switched on every night until the 6th January after there initial switch on. Every evening there is a light and sound diplay with the Christmas lights & carols at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00pm 2019 Dates 29-11-2019 and the switch on is at 7:30pm 2020 dates to be confirmed
Fuengirola Christmas market: The Christmas market in Fuengirola takes place in the Plaza de la Constitucion every year and consists of around 17 stalls . It opens from 10:30 to 2:30 then 5:00 to 9:00pm Its not the biggest Christmas Market on the Costa del sol but worth a look around for 10 to 20 minutes. The markets start early December. 2020 dates to be confirmed
Malaga Christmas lights switch on. One of the best lighting displays on the Costa del Sol. Every year Malaga switches on over 4,000,000 lights on the Calle Marques de Larios and surrounding area. The switch on is on the last Friday of November each year.The street is packed with people waiting for this light and sound extravaganza that marks the start of the Christmas period. The lights cover the whole length of the street and continue into the Plaza de la Constitucion. In the plaza there is an 18 metre metal christmas tree. The turning on of the lights can vary from year to year but the switch off is always on the 06th January. 2020 dates to be confirmed but 27-11-2020 at 6:30pm is the most likely date
Malaga Christmas Markets: The main Christmas market is located on the Parque de Malaga and is one of the biggest Christmas Markets on the Costa del Sol. This is a really nice place to take an evening walk and take in the ambiance of the market. There is another quirky Christmas market in Malaga called the Garage. The Garage is an old indoor car park with a pop up Christmas market in it. The market is only open at the weekends from 11:00 to 8:00pm.It is located on the corner of Calle Casas de Campos 33 and is worth a visit. The Market runs through December to 6th January.
Torremolinos Lights switch on May be not as big as the Malaga lights but is still an event worth going to. The switch on happens in the Plaza Costa del Sol and is followed by traditional music and dancing. The switch on also caters for kids with Santa Claus, The royal postman and the Cavalcade of Kings. 2020 dates to be confirmed
