Málaga María Zambrano is the city's main railway station and an important gateway to Málaga, connecting the city with destinations across Andalucía and the rest of Spain. High-speed AVE services link Málaga with Madrid and other major Spanish cities, while long-distance, regional and Cercanías trains provide connections around the province and along the Costa del Sol. The station is also home to Vialia, a small shopping and leisure centre with shops, restaurants, a food court, supermarket and cinema, making it useful for visitors even if they are not catching a train. 

1. Overview

Málaga María Zambrano is Málaga's principal railway station and one of the most important transport hubs in Andalucía. The modern station replaced Málaga's former main railway station and is now the terminus for high-speed trains as well as conventional long-distance, regional and local services.

The station is particularly important because of Málaga's connection to Spain's high-speed rail network. AVE and other high-speed services connect Málaga with Madrid, Córdoba, Zaragoza, Barcelona and other destinations, while connections through Madrid and other major railway hubs make it possible to travel onwards to many parts of Spain. 

For visitors staying on the Costa del Sol, the station is also an important part of the local transport network. The Cercanías C1 line connects Málaga with the airport and resorts including Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, while the C2 line runs inland towards Álora. 

The station is integrated with Vialia Málaga, a shopping and leisure centre containing shops, restaurants, cafés, a supermarket and a cinema.

Málaga María Zambrano is located just west of Málaga's historic centre, close to the city's main bus station and within easy reach of the port and central attractions.

3. Opening Times

The railway station operates around the train timetable, with access varying according to train services and security arrangements.

Vialia shopping centre:
Generally open during normal shopping hours.

Shops:
Generally around 10:00am – 10:00pm

Restaurants and food outlets:
Opening times vary, with many remaining open into the evening.

Train departure and arrival times vary throughout the day, so passengers should check their individual service before travelling.

Vialia Málaga

Attached directly to the station is Vialia Málaga, a compact shopping and leisure centre. It provides a useful place to eat, shop or pass some time before catching a train.

There are numerous restaurants and cafés, including international chains and Spanish restaurants, together with fashion, technology and other shops. The complex also includes a cinema and supermarket. 

5. How to Get There

By train:
María Zambrano is Málaga's main railway station, with AVE, long-distance, regional and Cercanías services arriving and departing throughout the day.

By Cercanías:
The C1 line connects María Zambrano with Málaga Airport and the resorts of Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola. The C2 line runs inland towards Álora. 

By metro:
Málaga Metro's El Perchel station is located beside the railway station, providing connections towards the city and western parts of Málaga.

By bus:
Málaga's main intercity bus station is only a short walk from María Zambrano, providing another important transport connection.

On foot:
The historic centre is around a 15–20 minute walk from the station, with Calle Larios, Málaga Port and other attractions easily reached on foot.

María Zambrano and Vialia have parking facilities, making the station convenient for visitors arriving by car to catch a train.

There are also other parking options around the surrounding streets and Málaga city centre.

Because the station is a major transport hub, the area can become busy, particularly during peak travel periods.
