1. Overview

Parque de la Paloma is one of the most popular green spaces in Benalmádena and a great place to escape the busy coastal areas for a while. Covering more than 200,000 square metres, the park combines landscaped gardens, walking paths, open spaces, an artificial lake and plenty of wildlife. 

The park is particularly popular with families, but there is plenty to enjoy for visitors of all ages. You can wander around the gardens, sit beside the lake, watch the animals or simply find a shady spot to relax.

Its location close to the coast also makes it very easy to combine with a visit to the beaches, Puerto Marina, Selwo Marina or the promenade.

Parque de la Paloma is located in Benalmádena Costa, just a short distance from the seafront and beaches.

Opening times can occasionally change because of maintenance, special events or other circumstances, so it is worth checking locally if you are planning a visit at a particular time.

4. What You'll Find in Parque de la Paloma

The park offers a mixture of gardens, wildlife and recreational areas, including:

A large artificial lake

Ducks and other water birds

Terrapins

Landscaped gardens

Cactus and succulent garden

Restaurant and refreshment areas

The lake is one of the main features of the park, while the animals wandering around the grounds are particularly popular with children. There is also a dedicated cactus and succulent garden which provides a very different landscape from the greener areas around the lake. 

5. How to Get There

By train:

The nearest train station is Benalmádena-Arroyo de la Miel. From the station, Parque de la Paloma is around a 15–20 minute walk, although the route includes some uphill sections.

By bus:

Local bus services operate around Benalmádena Costa, with stops close to the park.

On foot:

The park is easy to reach from the beaches and promenade. It can also be reached on foot from Puerto Marina and Selwo Marina.

By car:

Parque de la Paloma can be reached easily from the N-340 and A-7, with parking available in the surrounding streets and areas close to the park.

6. Parking

There are parking options around Parque de la Paloma, although finding a space can become more difficult during busy summer days and weekends.

If you are visiting early in the morning, you will generally have a better chance of finding convenient parking close to the park.

The park has several entrances, so you do not necessarily need to park directly beside the main entrance.

7. Tips for Visiting

Allow at least an hour to explore the park properly.

Families should allow longer, particularly if children want to use the play areas.

Take your time walking around the lake.

Look out for the different animals around the park.

Visit the cactus and succulent garden.

Take water with you during the summer.

Try to visit earlier in the day when temperatures are lower.

Wear comfortable shoes if you intend to walk around the whole park.

The park provides plenty of shaded areas, but some paths and open areas can be exposed to the sun.

Combine your visit with Selwo Marina, the beach or Puerto Marina.

Parque de la Paloma can be particularly pleasant in the late afternoon when the temperature begins to fall.

9. Overall Experience

Parque de la Paloma is one of the best places in Benalmádena for visitors who want a break from the beach, shops and busy tourist areas. Its size means that it never feels like just a small town park, and there is plenty of space to wander around without having to follow a particular route.

The combination of the lake, gardens, animals, walking paths and children's areas makes it particularly good for families, while couples and older visitors can simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings and find somewhere to sit and relax. The park is also conveniently located close to the coast, so it is easy to combine with several other Benalmádena attractions. 

Our tip: Don't just walk through Parque de la Paloma on the way to somewhere else. Give yourself some time to explore the lake, gardens and quieter paths, and look out for the animals as you go. If you're visiting in summer, an early morning or late afternoon visit is much more comfortable and allows you to enjoy the park before the hottest part of the day.
