1. Overview

Parque de Málaga is one of the city's most important green spaces and stretches for around 800 metres between Plaza de la Marina and the Plaza del General Torrijos area. The park forms a natural link between Málaga's historic centre and the waterfront.

The park was created at the end of the 19th century as part of Málaga's expansion towards the sea. Its warm Mediterranean climate allows an impressive collection of tropical and subtropical plants to grow, giving the park a distinctive appearance compared with many European city parks.

As well as its trees, palms and colourful planting, Parque de Málaga contains fountains, sculptures, monuments and shaded pathways. It is a pleasant place to walk through when travelling between the historic centre, Málaga Port and Muelle Uno.

2. Location & Address

Parque de Málaga is located immediately south of Málaga's historic centre, running alongside the eastern side of the main city centre and towards the port.

• 5 minutes' walk from Muelle Uno
• 5 minutes' walk from Málaga Cathedral
• 5 minutes' walk from the Alcazaba
• 10 minutes' walk from Calle Larios

Its central position makes the park particularly easy to include when exploring Málaga on foot.

3. Opening Times

Parque de Málaga is a public city park and can generally be accessed throughout the day.

The park is particularly pleasant during daylight hours, when visitors can appreciate the planting, fountains, sculptures and architecture.

There is no general entrance charge to walk through the park.

4. What You'll Find in Parque de Málaga

The park offers much more than a simple green space, with visitors able to discover:

5. How to Get There

By train:
Take the Cercanías Málaga C1 line to Málaga Centro–Alameda station. From the station, Parque de Málaga is around a 15-minute walk.

By bus:
Several Málaga city bus routes stop around Alameda Principal, Plaza de la Marina and Paseo del Parque, making the park very easy to reach by public transport.

On foot:
The park is directly beside the historic centre. From Plaza de la Marina, cross towards Paseo del Parque and the main entrance to the park.

It can easily be combined with Málaga Cathedral, Alcazaba, Roman Theatre, Muelle Uno and the Palmeral de las Sorpresas.

6. Parking

Parking in central Málaga can be difficult, particularly during busy periods.

The easiest option is generally to use one of the central underground car parks and walk to the park.

There are parking facilities around Muelle Uno, Plaza de la Marina and the surrounding city centre, all within easy walking distance of Parque de Málaga.

• Walk through the park rather than simply using it as a route between attractions.
• Take time to look at the unusual tropical and subtropical plants.
• The park provides welcome shade during the hotter summer months.
• Visit in the morning or late afternoon when temperatures are more comfortable.
• Combine the park with the Alcazaba and Roman Theatre.
• Continue through the park towards Muelle Uno and the Palmeral de las Sorpresas.
• Take a camera as there are plenty of interesting plants, fountains and sculptures to photograph.
• Look out for the various monuments as you walk through the park.
• The park is particularly pleasant for a relaxing break from sightseeing.
• Comfortable footwear is recommended if combining the park with Málaga's historic centre and waterfront.

Parque de Málaga is one of those attractions that can easily be overlooked because it sits between the city's more famous sights, but it is well worth taking the time to explore. Its combination of tropical planting, palm trees, fountains, sculptures and shaded pathways makes it one of the most relaxing places in central Málaga.

The park is particularly useful when exploring the city on foot because it connects the historic centre with the port and Muelle Uno. Rather than walking along the busy roads, visitors can take a more peaceful route through the gardens.

For visitors spending a day in Málaga, Parque de Málaga works particularly well between visits to the historic centre and the waterfront. It is also a good place to stop and relax when the heat and crowds of the city centre become tiring.

Our tip: Don't simply walk through Parque de Málaga on your way to somewhere else. Slow down and explore the paths through the gardens. The variety of tropical plants and trees is one of the park's biggest attractions and gives it a character that you don't get from a typical European city park.
