 Information on La Alameda

1. Overview

La Alameda, also known as Parque de la Alameda, is one of Marbella's oldest public parks and an important part of the town's history.

The first records of the Alameda date from the 18th century, with documents from 1761 recording a promenade in this location. A fountain was added a year later, and the historic fountain known locally as La Pila remains one of the park's oldest features. 

The park was once considerably larger than it is today, covering around 20,000 square metres and occupying a significant part of the historic town centre. Over the years it has been remodelled as Marbella expanded, but it has retained its role as an important green space and meeting place. 

Today, La Alameda is a shady and peaceful contrast to the busy streets around Marbella Old Town and the seafront.

La Alameda is located in central Marbella between the Old Town and Avenida del Mar.

• 2 minutes' walk from Marbella Old Town
• 2 minutes' walk from Avenida del Mar
• 5 minutes' walk from Plaza de los Naranjos

Its central location makes La Alameda an easy stop when exploring Marbella on foot.

3. Opening Times

La Alameda is a public park and can be visited:

Every day:
24 hours a day

There is no admission charge.

The surrounding shops, cafés and restaurants have their own opening hours.

4. What You'll Find in La Alameda

The park offers:

• mature trees and gardens
• shaded walking paths
• traditional tiled benches
• fountains
• historic landscaping
• ornamental plants
• quiet areas for sitting and relaxing

One of the park's most interesting features is its mature vegetation. Some of the araucarias and plane trees were planted between 1910 and 1920 and have become prominent features of the park. 

La Alameda also acts as a link between the Old Town and Avenida del Mar. From here you can walk down to the famous collection of Salvador Dalí sculptures before continuing to the seafront. 

5. How to Get There

By car:
La Alameda is in central Marbella and there are several underground car parks within walking distance.

The underground car park beneath Avenida del Mar is particularly convenient, as it puts you close to both La Alameda and the Old Town.

By bus:
Local buses serve central Marbella, with stops around Avenida Ricardo Soriano and the surrounding town centre.

On foot:
La Alameda is only a few minutes' walk from Marbella Old Town, Avenida del Mar and the promenade.

It makes an excellent stopping point between the Old Town and the beach.

The underground car park beneath Avenida del Mar is one of the most convenient options, putting you just a few minutes' walk from La Alameda.

7. Tips for Visiting

• Allow around 20–30 minutes for a quick visit or longer if you want to sit and relax.
• Visit during the warmer part of the day when the shade from the mature trees is particularly welcome.
• Look for the historic fountain dating from the 18th century.
• Take time to appreciate the mature trees and gardens.
• Combine La Alameda with Marbella Old Town.
• Walk from La Alameda down Avenida del Mar to see the Dalí sculptures.

9. Overall Experience

La Alameda isn't a large attraction and you probably wouldn't make a special trip to Marbella just to see the park, but it is well worth including when exploring the town. Its position between the Old Town, Avenida del Mar and the seafront makes it almost impossible to miss if you are walking around central Marbella.

The mature trees provide welcome shade, while the historic fountain, tiled seating and landscaped gardens give the park a distinctly Andalusian character. More importantly, La Alameda has been part of Marbella's social life for centuries and remains a place where locals and visitors can sit, meet and escape the bustle of the town. 

Our tip: Use La Alameda as part of a walking route rather than as a standalone attraction. Start in Marbella Old Town, walk through La Alameda, continue down Avenida del Mar to see the Dalí sculptures, and then carry on to the promenade and beach. It makes a very easy and enjoyable route through some of the best-known parts of central Marbella.
