 Information on the Beach & Promenade

Marbella's Paseo Marítimo is the town's main seafront promenade and one of its most popular places for walking, relaxing and enjoying the Mediterranean coastline.

The promenade runs along the coast through central Marbella, passing beaches, gardens, restaurants, chiringuitos, hotels and some of the town's most recognisable landmarks.

It is particularly attractive because it sits directly between the town and the sea. You can easily combine a walk along the promenade with a visit to Marbella Old Town, Avenida del Mar, the marina or one of the many beaches along the route.

The promenade also forms part of Marbella's wider coastal walking route, with sections continuing towards Puerto Banús and San Pedro Alcántara.

The central section of Marbella's promenade runs alongside the Mediterranean between the marina and the western beaches.

• 2 minutes' walk from Marbella Marina
• 5 minutes' walk from Avenida del Mar
• 5 minutes' walk from Marbella Old Town

The central promenade is particularly easy to reach from Marbella Old Town and the town centre.

3. Opening Times

The Marbella promenade is a public seafront walkway and can be enjoyed:

Every day:
24 hours a day

There is no admission charge.

Individual restaurants, cafés, chiringuitos, beach clubs and other businesses along the promenade have their own opening times.

The promenade is particularly atmospheric in the evening when the restaurants and beach bars become busy.

4. What You'll Find Along Marbella Promenade

The promenade offers a mixture of:

• Mediterranean sea views
• sandy beaches
• beach bars and chiringuitos
• restaurants and cafés
• palm trees and landscaped areas
• benches and seating areas
• walking and cycling routes
• views towards Gibraltar and the African coast on exceptionally clear days

Some of Marbella's most popular beaches are directly alongside the promenade, including Playa de La Venus, Playa del Faro, La Fontanilla and Casablanca. 

The promenade is also a great place to experience the traditional Spanish paseo, when locals and visitors head out for an evening walk beside the sea.

5. How to Get There

By car:
There are several underground and public car parks around central Marbella. The car park beneath Avenida del Mar is particularly useful for accessing the promenade and Old Town.

By bus:
Local buses serve central Marbella, with stops around Avenida Ricardo Soriano and the town centre within easy walking distance of the seafront.

On foot:
The promenade is easily reached from Marbella Old Town, Avenida del Mar, Alameda Park and the marina.

By bicycle:
Cycling is possible along suitable sections, although pedestrians have priority on the promenade. Check local signs and restrictions before cycling.

6. Parking

Parking close to Marbella's seafront can be difficult during busy summer periods.

The underground car park beneath Avenida del Mar is one of the most convenient options because it puts you close to the promenade, beach and Old Town.

There are also other underground car parks around central Marbella, while some street parking can be found further away from the seafront.

If you are planning to spend several hours walking along the coast, it can be easier to park once in the town centre and explore on foot.

7. Tips for Visiting

• Walk the promenade early in the morning for a quieter experience.
• Sunset is one of the best times to enjoy the seafront.
• Stop at one of the chiringuitos for lunch or a drink.
• Combine the promenade with Marbella Old Town and Avenida del Mar.
• In the middle of summer, early morning or late afternoon is generally more comfortable than the hottest part of the day.
• Look out for the Marbella Lighthouse as you walk through the central section.
• If you enjoy walking, continue beyond the central section towards Puerto Banús or San Pedro where the coastal route allows.

9. Overall Experience

Marbella's promenade is much more than simply a walkway beside the beach. It is one of the best places to experience the atmosphere of the resort, with the Mediterranean on one side and the restaurants, hotels, shops and attractions of Marbella on the other.

It works particularly well as part of a walking route. You can start in the Old Town, walk down through Avenida del Mar, reach the promenade and then continue along the seafront towards the marina and beaches. For a longer walk, you can continue west towards Puerto Banús and eventually San Pedro Alcántara. 

The promenade also changes character throughout the day. Mornings are relatively peaceful and popular with walkers and runners, while afternoons bring people to the beaches and evenings create a much livelier atmosphere around the restaurants and chiringuitos.

Our tip: Don't just walk the short section between the marina and Avenida del Mar. If you have the time, walk further along the coast. The central promenade is attractive, but the longer coastal route gives you a much better impression of Marbella and its beaches — and you can always stop for a drink or lunch along the way.
