1. Overview

The Puerto Deportivo de Marbella, officially known as Puerto Virgen del Carmen, is Marbella's main central leisure marina and one of the town's most convenient attractions for visitors.

Unlike Puerto Banús, which is famous for its luxury yachts and designer shopping, Marbella's central marina has a more relaxed and local atmosphere. Its position directly beside the promenade and beaches makes it particularly easy to include in a day exploring the town. 

The marina is arranged over two levels, with terraces, bars and restaurants above and the nautical facilities and boat-related businesses below. Events and entertainment are also held around the marina during the year. 

The port has 377 berths for boats from 6 to 20 metres and provides a wide range of services for visiting vessels. 

2. Location & Address

The marina is located directly on Marbella's seafront, beside the Paseo Marítimo and close to the centre of town.

• 2 minutes' walk from Marbella Promenade
• 5 minutes' walk from Avenida del Mar
• 5 minutes' walk from La Alameda

Its central location makes it easy to combine with almost any visit to Marbella.

3. Opening Times

The marina is a working port and public leisure area, so the waterfront can be enjoyed throughout the day.

Marina facilities:
Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 8:00pm
Saturday and Sunday: 9:00am – 2:00pm

Marina staff are available 24 hours a day for port services. 

The restaurants, bars, shops and individual businesses around the marina have their own opening times.

5. How to Get There

By car:
The marina is in central Marbella and can be reached from the surrounding town roads. There are several parking options within walking distance.

By bus:
Local buses serve central Marbella, with stops around the town centre and Avenida Ricardo Soriano within walking distance of the marina.

On foot:
The marina is very easy to reach from the Old Town, La Alameda, Avenida del Mar and the Paseo Marítimo.

It is particularly easy to combine with a walk through the Old Town followed by Avenida del Mar, La Alameda and the seafront.

6. Parking

There are several parking options around the marina and central Marbella, although finding a space close to the waterfront can become more difficult during busy periods.

The underground car park beneath Avenida del Mar is one convenient option, while there are also parking areas further inland within walking distance.

If you are visiting the marina as part of a longer day exploring Marbella, it can make sense to park once and explore the surrounding attractions on foot.

7. Tips for Visiting

• Walk around the marina rather than simply looking at it from the promenade.
• Visit during the late afternoon and stay for the evening atmosphere.
• Consider booking a boat trip or other water activity from the marina.
• Check the available boat hire and jet ski activities if you want something more adventurous.
• Combine the marina with a walk along Marbella's Paseo Marítimo.
• Avenida del Mar and La Alameda are both within easy walking distance.
• Walk north into Marbella Old Town after visiting the marina.
• Stop at one of the waterfront restaurants or bars for a drink or meal.
• Check for events and activities taking place around the marina during your visit.
• Don't confuse the central Puerto Deportivo with Puerto Banús, which is a completely different marina several kilometres to the west.

9. Overall Experience

The Puerto Deportivo Marítimo de Marbella is one of those attractions that works particularly well because of its location rather than simply what is inside the marina. You can combine the harbour with the promenade, beaches, Old Town, Avenida del Mar and La Alameda without needing to travel between them.

For visitors wanting to get out onto the Mediterranean, it also provides considerably more than somewhere to look at boats. Boat trips, boat hire, jet skis, diving, paddleboarding and other nautical activities are all available, making it one of the main places in Marbella to arrange activities on the water. 

The marina is also a good place to return to in the evening, when the terraces and restaurants become busier and the waterfront takes on a livelier atmosphere.

Our tip: Don't just walk around the marina and leave. This is one of the best places in Marbella to book a boat trip or other water activity, so if you're looking for something different to do during your stay, check what's available before you arrive. Otherwise, combine it with the promenade, Avenida del Mar and the Old Town to make a really good walking route through central Marbella.
