Information on the Parque La Bateria

1. Overview

Parque de la Batería is one of the best places in Torremolinos to escape the busy streets and enjoy some open space.

The park covers more than 74,000 square metres and contains gardens, trees, walking routes, sports facilities and a large artificial lake. It is particularly popular with families, but there is plenty to enjoy for visitors of all ages.

The park takes its name from the old coastal artillery battery that once occupied the site. Several of the original guns and underground bunkers have been preserved, adding an interesting historical element to the park.

One of the park's highlights is the 15-metre-high observation tower, which provides excellent views across Torremolinos and the Mediterranean.

The park has also become considerably easier to reach from the coast following the opening of a new panoramic lift in January 2025, connecting the park with Avenida Carlota Alessandri near La Carihuela.

Parque de la Batería is located in the Montemar area of Torremolinos, just north of La Carihuela.

• 5 minutes' walk from Montemar Alto train station
• 10 minutes' walk from La Carihuela
• 20 minutes' walk from Torremolinos town centre

The park's elevated position provides excellent views towards the Mediterranean.

The new panoramic lift provides an alternative entrance from Avenida Carlota Alessandri, making it much easier to reach the park from the beach and La Carihuela without walking up the steep roads.

3. Opening Times

Parque de la Batería is open throughout the year.

Summer:
Generally 7:30am – 11:00pm

Winter:
Generally 7:30am – 10:00pm

Opening times can vary, particularly around special events and public holidays, so it is worth checking before visiting.

Admission: Free.

The rowing boats, carousel and some of the children's attractions have their own operating times and may not operate every day.

The old artillery positions and bunkers are particularly interesting because they provide a reminder of the site's original military purpose.

5. How to Get There

By train:
Take the Cercanías Málaga C1 line to Montemar Alto station. The station is immediately beside the park, making this one of the easiest ways to visit without a car.

From La Carihuela and the beach:
The new panoramic lift from Avenida Carlota Alessandri provides a much easier way to reach the park. The lift opened in January 2025 and connects the lower coastal area with the park via a pedestrian walkway.

This is particularly useful if you are walking along the promenade or staying in La Carihuela, as you can avoid the steep climb up to the park.

A useful shortcut to Montemar Alto station:
The lift isn't just useful for reaching the park. If you are coming from La Carihuela or the beach and want to catch the train from Montemar Alto, the lift provides a useful shortcut. Take the lift up to Parque de la Batería and then walk through the park towards the train station.

This can be considerably easier than walking up the roads from the coast.

By bus:
Local buses operate around the Montemar area, with stops within walking distance of the park.

By car:
The park can be reached via Avenida del Carmelo and there are parking areas around the park.

6. Parking

Parking is one of the advantages of Parque de la Batería, with parking areas around the park making it considerably easier to visit by car than many of Torremolinos' central attractions.

If you're visiting with children or planning to spend several hours here, arriving by car can be particularly convenient.

But have a look at the parking options below for more information about parking in Torremolinos and other useful places to park when visiting the town.

7. Tips for Visiting

• Allow at least 1–2 hours to explore the park properly.
• If travelling with children, allow extra time for the playground and lake.
• Climb the observation tower for the panoramic views.
• Look out for the old artillery guns and underground bunkers.
• Walk around the lake rather than just visiting the main entrance.
• Combine the park with a visit to La Carihuela.
• Use the new panoramic lift if you are coming from the beach or La Carihuela and want to avoid the steep climb.
• The lift also provides a useful shortcut to Montemar Alto train station.
• If travelling by train, Montemar Alto is particularly convenient as the station is right beside the park.
• Don't overlook the military history of the site — the guns and bunkers are an interesting part of the visit.

9. Overall Experience

Parque de la Batería is one of the attractions I would recommend adding to a Torremolinos itinerary, particularly if you've already explored the beaches and town centre. It offers something completely different, with gardens, a lake, children's attractions, coastal views and an interesting military history.

The new panoramic lift has made the park even more useful for visitors. Previously, getting to the park from La Carihuela involved tackling some fairly steep streets, but the lift now provides a much easier connection between the beach and the park. It also creates a useful walking route for anyone wanting to travel between La Carihuela, Parque de la Batería and Montemar Alto train station.

For families, the park is particularly good because there is plenty to keep children occupied, while adults can enjoy the gardens, walking routes and views. The fact that entry is free makes it an easy addition to a day out.

Our tip: If you're staying around La Carihuela, don't think of Parque de la Batería as being "up the hill" and difficult to reach. Use the new lift from Avenida Carlota Alessandri, explore the park and then walk through to Montemar Alto station if you want to continue your journey by train. It turns the park into a very useful part of a much bigger walking route rather than simply somewhere to visit by car.
