The old town of San Pedro

San Pedro de Alcántara Old Town offers a more traditional side of the Costa del Sol, with attractive plazas, narrow streets, local shops, cafés, and a relaxed Andalusian atmosphere. Less touristy than nearby Puerto Banús and Marbella, it provides an authentic glimpse of everyday Spanish life while still being within easy reach of the coast.

Information on the old town

1. Overview

The Old Town of San Pedro de Alcántara is centred around Plaza de la Iglesia and the surrounding network of pedestrian streets. Filled with traditional cafés, tapas bars, boutiques, and local businesses, it offers a pleasant alternative to the larger tourist resorts nearby. The area is known for its well-maintained streets, colourful flower displays, and welcoming atmosphere throughout the year.

2. Location & Address

The Old Town is located in the heart of San Pedro de Alcántara, a short distance inland from the beach and promenade.

Address: Plaza de la Iglesia, San Pedro de Alcántara, Marbella, Málaga, Spain

Most of the historic centre is pedestrianised, making it ideal for exploring on foot.

3. Opening Times & Accessibility

The Old Town itself is accessible 24 hours a day.

Shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants generally operate normal business hours, with many restaurants reopening in the evening after the traditional afternoon break.

The largely flat streets make the area suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and pushchairs, although some older streets have traditional paving surfaces.

4. Parking

One of the easiest places to park when visiting the Old Town is around the nearby Boulevard of San Pedro.

There are numerous free parking spaces surrounding the boulevard, making it one of the best parking areas in San Pedro. From there, the Old Town is only a short walk away. Additional parking can also be found in various streets surrounding the town centre.

5. How to Get There

By Car:
Easy access from the A-7 and AP-7 motorways, with parking available around the boulevard and town centre.
